RELEASE OF STATE OF CALIFORNIA / UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA LEASE DOCUMENTS

On Thursday, July 25, 2013, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission and the University of Southern California executed the Second Amendment to Lease and Agreement that amends the existing USC-Coliseum Commission Lease for the operation of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, as authorized by the Coliseum Commission in their Open Session meeting of July 17, 2013. The Second Amendment to Lease and Agreement became effective on Monday, July 29, 2013, and on that day transferred day-to-day management responsibilities for the Coliseum and Sports Arena to USC. The amended lease is contingent upon the satisfaction or waiver of the following contingencies prior to December 16, 2013:

  • Execution by the State of California and the Board of the California Science Center (collectively, the “State”) of a non-disturbance agreement that allows the university to remain in possession of the Premises as a direct tenant of the State in the event the ground lease between the State and the Commission is terminated;
  • Execution by the State and the University of an Option Agreement for the university to lease the Coliseum and Sports Arena, commencing on January 1, 2055 and continuing for 57 years, so that the university has a potential total lease term of 99 years.

Representatives of the university and the State have been working diligently to negotiate and draft the documents for these contingencies. In an effort to promote and support a transparent and public process, the university and State are posting the following documents, which include the latest version, as well as a “red-line” version which highlights the changes from the prior publicly posted version:

The university welcomes comments on these documents from the public. Comments, as well as copies of the exhibits, can be submitted to the university at comments@re.usc.edu or to the State at ExpoParkProposalComments@scsa.ca.gov. In addition, the California Science Center Board has placed this matter on the agenda for its September 4, 2013 public meeting at the following link: http://www.californiasciencecenter.ca.gov/GenInfo/NewsAndEvents/PublicNotices/PublicNotices.php.
